BTW, if y'all can't tell from the above links... This is a HUGE pain and near people don't practice information technology.

In 100% agreement with Mike. Lots of potential for all sorts of things breaking. If you lot plan to become ahead with this, be sure you lot have a lab surround that closely mirrors your production environment. By that I mean that the lab has about (better to take all) the product applications installed. Try your rename in the lab to come across how many of those applications break and so figure out how to fix it. Trying to exercise this in production turns your production environment into a huge lab and could take business critical applications out of product until you figure out how to fix the problem by either some sort of hack/patch or a re-installation.

The original question was about changing *but* the NetBios proper noun, is this really that complicated?
In my case, I originally proper name my DC every bit the name that ended upwards beingness wanted for the netbios proper noun. The DOMAIN proper noun itself is good (ends with .local - this is only for a test-bed). I have already changed the DC name to not conflict.
This wasn't that complicated
- rendom /list
(edit the netbios name) - rendom /upload
- rendom /set up
- rendom /execute
(will reboot) - rendom /end
I was somewhat cavalier with it, because I would take simply rebuilt information technology if I had an issue, just this did what I needed and was a lot simpler than trying to start over.
For a production AD, you will evidently want to read and understand everything quite thoroughly.

You responded to a mail service that is well-nigh four years old. Information technology is not surprising that a reference made that long ago may no longer be. Even so, the response marked every bit the answer for the original mail is however valid.
