How To Clean Macbook Pro Speaker Grills
Jordan asked: How do I clean my MacBook Pro Speaker Holes? There are crumbs and stuff getting caught in the holes where the sound comes out of the case.
Laptops offer a great convenience when it comes to allowing us to work anywhere and everywhere. Often times this means that we are snacking and doing other things while we're at our computer. Because of the compact nature of all of the components on a laptop, it is more susceptible to collecting dust and debris such as crumbs. Fortunately, it's quick and easy to clean.
You Will Need:
- Hand vac or Dustbuster with brush attachment
- Cotton swabs
Steps to Clean the Speakers:
- Start by shutting down and unplugging the computer.
- The easiest way to remove these crumbs and dirt is to vacuum it away. However, ensure that your vacuum does not have too great of suction power that will damage the interior components of the computer. Often times hand vacs or dustbusters are ideal for these jobs because they have less suction than a floor vacuum.
- Place the brush attachment on whichever vacuum you choose to use and gently brush the area as the vacuum suctions the dirt and crumbs out of the speaker holes.
- If necessary, use a cotton swab to wipe away debris that is stuck.
Additional Tips and Ideas
- Compressed air is often used to clean the keyboards of computers but it is not recommended for cleaning the speakers. The air forces the dirt and crumbs inside of the computer rather than pulling it out and removing it completely.
- Some laptops can be partially disassembled to access the rear of the speaker grills, which would allow you to blow the debris out more easily. Be careful though, this will probably void your waranty.
- If the dirt build-up is beyond your ability level to remove, have a professional clean it for you.
